1st NATIONAL SEMINAR-WORKSHOP ON CAVE RESEARCH |
|
Caving experts and enthusiasts from all over the Philippines met together for the very first national seminar-workshop on Cave Research Survey Methods held on August 11 to 12, 2009 at the CSCST – Argao Campus. The event was jointly sponsored by the Cebu Biodiversity Conservation Foundation (CBCF) and the Protected Area and Wildlife Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), in cooperation with the CSCST – Argao Campus and the Local Government of Argao, Cebu. With the theme “Developing a Standard Cave Research Survey Method for Cave Assessment and Monitoring”, the two day seminar-workshop was designed to critique existing cave research methods and hopefully come up with a newer, more accurate means of doing cave research and assessment.
The seminar-workshop scrutinized the existing cave assessment method form and studied all areas including the technical aspects, management side, and threats and conservation. Three presentations on previously made cave studies were presented by three caving societies: the Sarangani Bay Area Outdoor Club, the Cebu Speleological Assn, and Western Visayas Caving Club. Reynaldo Bagayas, President of the Phil. Speleological Society, also gave a talk about the national speleological groups. At the end of the first day, a unity dinner was sponsored by CSCST-Argao Campus and LGU-Argao at the CSCST grounds. The guests were given a brief presentation of Argao and its heritage by Todd L. Sales, Culture and Heritage Officer of the Municipality as well as a part time instructor of the College. For the rest of the evening, the CSCST dance troupe and the college chorale entertained the guests with various cultural presentations. |
